Tavira set up for FD Worlds

FD World Championship 2002 - Tavira set up for FD Worlds
TAVIRA, PORTUGAL-(25-8-2002) The Clube Náutico de Tavira and the International Flying Dutchman Class Organization set up from the 28th of August to the 3rd of September the o International Flying Dutchman Open World Championship counting with 75 boats in a total of 150 sailors.

The 28th of August will be spent in measuring and weighting of the boats that will participate in the Championship.
The first race will take place in the following day, the 29th, with a take-off foreseen at 14:00.

Four more races will take place on the 30th and 31st of August.
As usual one counts with one more day, in case the foreseen races aren’t accomplished – the 1st of September.

The last races of the Championship will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of September. On the evening of the 3rd of September the winners will get on the podium to receive the so deserved prizes.

The program of this world championship counts with the accomplishment of 9 races; nevertheless the limit is 2 races a day.
3 races validate the championship but if there would be five or more races than the worst result can be excluded.
Concerning the prizes, to the podium will be present the absolute winners, the winners who hadn’t any of their results put off and the best crew with less than 26 years old.

In this Championship will participate strong crews like the German team Hans Peter Schwarz / Roland Kist winner of the World Cup, the Dutchmen Bas van Der Pol/Marc van Der Pol – 6th positioned and Enno Kramer / Ard Geelkerken also representing Netherlands on the 15th position.

Portugal is represented bu 2 crews João Lapa/José Luís Lopes and Frederico Batista/Rafael Paraíso.

We should point out that Paulo Paraíso and José Massapina, who are, at the present time, managers of the Clube Náutico de Tavira, were a team in this class for the preparation of the Olympic Games of Barcelona. Therefore they are “experts” on the class Flying Dutchman.
